Below are Alanis Morissette items which I feel
everyone Alanis fans should own. If you would like a complete list of Alanis merchandise available click here.
Alanis Morissette : A Biography By Paul Cantin; Released 1998
Although it is now out-of-date, this is by far the best biography on Alanis Morissette. Instead of yet another saga of individual excesses vented into a microphone, the real story here proves to be the more interesting drama of a serious, dedicated artist working to make her music more personally meaningful
with the same discipline and drive that made her early commercial success possible. Detailed accounts of her collaborations with a slew of songwriters and producers show a maturing Morissette learning to trust her own instincts and stop trying so hard to please her mentors. The result, ironically, was a platinum-selling CD (Jagged Little Pill)
that pleased almost everyone. Cantin's circumspect text doesn't offer much for gossip junkies, but his close focus on the creative process is ultimately more satisfying.
City of Angels Soundtrack Released March 31, 1998
Includes Uninvited, one of Alanis' most powerful songs. It's only available on this CD!
Dogma (Special Edition) Released June 26, 2001
Alanis Morissette in her second big-screen role - as God! Two banished angels (Ben Affleck and Matt Damon) have discovered a loophole that would allow them back into heaven; problem is, they'd destroy civilization in the process by proving God fallible. It's up to Bethany (Linda Fiorentino),
a lapsed Catholic who works in an abortion clinic, to save the day, with some help from two so-called prophets (Smith and Jason Mewes, as their perennial characters Jay and Silent Bob), the heretofore unknown 13th apostle (Chris Rock), and a sexy, heavenly muse (the sublime Salma Hayek, who almost single-handedly steals the film).
It hits a comic peak when Affleck and Fiorentino banter drunkenly on a train to New Jersey, not realizing they're mortal enemies--and segues into a comedy-action flick as the vengeful angels (who have a taste for blood) try to make their way into heaven. Smith's cast is exceptional--with Fiorentino lending a sardonic gravity to the
proceedings, and Jason Lee smirking evilly as the horned devil Azrael--and the film shuffles to its climax (featuring Alanis Morissette as a beatifically silent God.)
Dogma Soundtrack Released November 2, 1999
Includes the non-lp track Still, which is only available on this CD!
Jagged Little Pill Live Released in July 1, 1997
"Jagged Little Pill, Live is a snapshot of a year and a half of my touring life beginning April 1995 and ending December 14, 1996. While it may have been tempting to alter it to better reflect who and where I am today, I thought it better to represent the growth on and offstage without comproimising the integrity of that time."
"While a show of this kind can only begin to scratch the surface of the experiences, revelations and perspective we had, it has become a souvenir of what it was to survive and still thrive in the bubble that was life on the road."
Alanis Morissette in her first big-screen role! She has a small cameo as herself. She performs a song from her "pop" days in the movie! A teenage boy disguises himself as a girl to hide from the school bully. Complications arise when he falls in love with the bully's sister and the bully forms a crush on him.
Thank U CD Single Released October 6, 1998
Includes Pollyanna Flower, which is only available on this CD! Pollyanna Flower is, in my opinion, one of Alanis' best creations.
